About Us

History

The Columbus House of Scribes was founded in 2009 by Sean, who started it as a Meetup group that met at a Tim Horton’s in Gahanna. The group was re-founded on Meetup in 2011 by Daniel, which is the current home of the group. As Sean moved more toward publishing and other duties and away from the group, Daniel gradually assumed the duties of organizer.

In 2012, a second meetup was added each month. In 2018, the group began using the Columbus Metropolitan Library meeting rooms, and NaNoWriMo write-ins began later that year.

In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic interrupted in-person events, and the group began meeting virtually using Zoom. NaNoWriMo events that year were conducted through Discord. In August 2021, in-person meetups resumed, and the second monthly meetup remained online for the benefit of members who might not be able to attend the in-person events.

Organizers

Daniel has maintained the Meetup group since 2011, and officially assumed the duties of group Organizer in 2017. He currently works as a reference librarian. He primarily writes comedy and horror.

Ed is the Assistant Organizer on Meetup. He writes science fiction, with several short stories and poems, and also creates 3D art.

Janelle is an event organizer, who has hosted a number of write-ins.
